You Can't Do That on Television
You Can't Do That on Television is a Canadian TV show that first aired in Canada in 1979. In 1981, it started to be shown around the world. It was a sketch comedy show with pre-teen and teen actors. Every episode had a main idea. Many performers, like Alanis Morissette and Bill Prady, got their start on the show. Prady went on to write and produce shows like The Big Bang Theory, Gilmore Girls, and Dharma and Greg. The show was made by and broadcast on CTV station CJOH-TV in Ottawa. After the show stopped being made in 1990, it was shown on Nickelodeon in reruns until 1994, when it was replaced by the similar All That. The show is always associated with Nick, and at the time, it had the highest ratings of any show on the channel. The show is also famous for being the first to use the network's famous slime. You Can't Do That on Film, a feature-length documentary made by David Dillehunt in 2004, is about the show.
