The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show
From November19,1959, through June27,1964, ABC and NBC broadcast the Rocky & Bullwinkle Show, an American animated television sitcom. Anthomorphic moose Bullwinkle and flying squirrel Rocky, created by Jay Ward Productions, star in their own variety program with their own serialized adventures. Most of their rivals are Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale, two Russian-like spies. Dudley Do-Right, Peabody's Improbable History, and Fractured Fairy Tales are among the supporting features. Rocky & Bullwinkle is noted for its caustic wit and outstanding writing. It was a hit with adults and children alike because of its mix of puns, cultural and topical satire, and self-referential humor. Storyboards were sent to Gamma, a Mexican studio also engaged by Total Television, for the first time in the history of animation outsourcing. Artwork and animation are both lacking in quality, even by the standards of today's popular television shows. In spite of this, many people who have seen the show are extremely fond of it; one critic called it "a well-written radio program with pictures."
