Target
Target was a police drama show that ran on BBC1 from 1977 78. It was established because the 13th Regional Crime Squad in Southampton. He was subsequently requested to swap roles Who, Philip Hinchcliffe who re-titled the series Target, although the show was originally developed under the name of Hackett by producer Graham Williams. It starred Patrick Mower as Det. Supt. Steve Hackett, Brendan Price as Det. Sgt. Frank Bonney, Vivien Heilbron as Det. Sgt. Louise Colbert and Philip Madoc as Det. Chief Supt. Ta Te. Seventeen episodes were produced over two string. The series was the BBC answer to the tremendously successful show The Sweeney of ITV. Such as The Sweeney the cars used were Fords, mostly Cortinas and Granadas. However the personal car of Hackett is American along the traces of a Dodge Charger and can be seen in a number of incidents. There is a definite lack of humour compared to this Sweeney and at the time the show was slated as being more violent than the Sweeney, though watching this today it's tough to distinguish the difference. The show was toned down. Additionally Patrick Mower being a powerful performer appears to overpower the cast, some thing which was not evident in the Sweeney. The theme music was by Dudley Simpson. Each episode lasted approx 50mins. A third series was mooted using Robert Banks Stewart. He spent two weeks at the manufacturer's chair, during which he planned to improve the cast, bring the violence down and steer the series farther away in The Sweeney. He has advised by the thoughts of drama which the show was being scrapped and asked to think of an alternative crime collection. He invented the personal eye drama shoe string.
