San Demetrio London

MV San Demetrio, a British drama documentary from1943, is based on the true account of the tanker's 1940 rescue by members of her own crew after the German heavy cruiser Admiral Scheer set it afire in the middle of the Atlantic and then abandoned it. Once they discovered that she hadn't exploded the following day, they decided to board the blazing tanker and put out the fires. As time went on, they were able to get the engine running again, and they chose to go for the British Isles in spite of the odds.
