Nothing Is Truer than Truth
Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford, A-list party boy on the continental circuit, spent a year and a half in Venice studying about commedia dell'arte and accumulating the experiences that would become Shakespeare's plays. Many of the film's locations were visited by De Vere in 1575-76: THE MERCHANT OF VENICE, OTHELLO, ROMEO AND JULIET, and TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA, among others. Featuring Sir Derek Jacobi, Mark Rylance, Tina Packer, and Diane Paulus, the film contends that De Vere's bisexuality is the cause behind the pseudonym Shake-speare.
