Harlan County U.S.A.

In June1973, coal miners at the Eastover Mining Company's Brookside Mine in Harlan County, Kentucky, went on strike. This led to a year-long strike that saw gun-toting company thugs/scabs clash with picketing miners and their female supporters. Director Barbara Kopple puts the strike in perspective by explaining the predicament of the miners and the UMWA's history.
