Black Magic for White Boys
In a little New York theatre, an elderly magician devises a devious plan to save his piece of old New York by conjuring actual black magic. In Onur Tukel's latest film, BLACK MAGIC FOR WHITE BOYS, harsh reality and magical illusions collide in a surreal comedy journey about gentrification, race, and bodily autonomy in New York City. Tukel has entirely rewritten a concept that was first presented in 2017 as a four-episode series at Tribeca into a nasty and deliciously odd dark comedy with over 50 minutes of additional video. This is an intimate low-budget tale about the changing character of New York City, balancing edge misanthropy with a tone of goofy sweetness.
