Before We Grow Old
Berlin during the summer. Three twenty-somethings are two Berliners, Maria and Niels, and one British student, Chlo. Drifting libidinously across Berlin, they fall headfirst into a joyful and chaotic love affair with each other. They live life to the fullest, grabbing anything and anything that comes their way. Their only guide appears to be the pleasure they share–which works wonderfully until Chlo inadvertently becomes pregnant. Insecurity and rage, envy and uncertainty are now on the rise. An abortion is planned and rejected. Who gets to say what, when, and how? Their peculiar trio disintegrates, and their previously harmonious connection mutates into shifting constellations of two –until it appears feasible to reestablish a shaky equilibrium, if only for a minute. Is their utopia within grasp, or is this just the calm before the storm? It takes a lot of effort to love differently. The world is not ready for Maria, Niels, and Chlo. Neither are they.
